Women March 2020
RBG's Legacy Rally
The League of Women Voters of New Jersey (LWVNJ) and local chapters throughout the state, including LWV Morristown Area, hosted RBG’s Legacy Rally on Oct 17, 2020 in Plainfield, New Jersey, as part of the national Women’s March 2020. We heard from strong, diverse voices representing advocacy groups from across the State on the rally themes of gender justice, racial justice and economic justice.
Represented organizations include LWVNJ, NAACP, Planned Parenthood, New Jersey Reentry Corp, New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, Unitarian Universalist FaithAction, Moms Demand Action, Women for Progress, Kean Human Rights Institute, NJ assemblywomen and senators, the founder of NJ Women’s March, youth voice of the future and more. The nonpartisan event was held outside on the grounds of the duCret School of Art where people safely organized while social distancing.
We believe that Women’s Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are Women’s Rights. We must create a society in which women - including Black women, Indigenous women, poor women, immigrant women, disabled women, Jewish women, Muslim women, Latinx women, Asian and Pacific Islander women, lesbian, bi, queer, and trans women - are free and able to care for and nurture their families, however they are formed, in safe and healthy environments free from structural impediments.
